If there seems to be something unexplained about your life and it's just not showing up in your chart after in-depth study of it, then an asteroid may explain it. That's how I came to better understand my role as a healer/herbalist: Chiron (in 7th) parallel my Asc (17° Virgo) at 5° north.
Asteroidism set western astrology back in some ways, because as a novelty in the 70s they were over-pursued, and too much was attributed to them. When I say asteroidism I mean the drive to replace planetary rulers with asteroids. Nu-uh. These were folks with a relatively intermediate sign-based understanding of astrology attempting to make far-reaching decisions without enough knowledge base, or with at least a skewed view of astrological influence and what the planets themselves do and mean in our soul development. And by asteroidism I'm referring to the perspective on this pushed by Zip Dobyns. It made astrology more interesting, I'm sure, because plenty of astrologers had made it more dour or dull than it should have been, but ultimately it was a trend that has since subsided (in favor of trends back to traditional or classical schools).
I think if you find there is a particular asteroid that tells something of your personal story that the planets cannot, then it deserves to be included in your natal chart. But scattering asteroids all over the chart as if afraid you'll leave out something significant is an example of where it goes wrong.
There are some astrologers who probably do pretty good asteroid readings with just those on the chart. I'm not one of them.
The things is there are so many of them. I noticed Chrion and Lilith appearing on some websites. Supposedly if you have Chiron conjunct to someone´s personal planets there will be alot of pain and reopening old wounds in the relationship.
I had Lilith square venus with a guy and read that it is similar to a venus pluto connection. Our relationship was very intense, but we also had venus trine pluto and his venus sextile my pluto in our synastry. So I wondered what part lilith played.
